I was wondering what the pay is for consultant anaesthetists? Any know or willing to hazard a guess?

    Thanks!

Consultant I shadowed (ITU/anaesthetics) told me £120k. I didn't ask but I guess he just felt like I should know

Google was my first line of attack. All I came up with is "Consultant Scale" to which, I am sure, all anaesthetists have ,when I tried to search current positions in the UK. I even checked the FRCA website to see what the scale was and was unsuccessful there, as well. Arghhhhh!

Is there a particular reason you're interested in pay? A consultants wage is always going to be good, and you should be doing it for the love of the medicine.

Love of medicine doesn't pay the bills. I tried telling O2 I hadn't paid my bill for exactly that reason but they still cut me off

I don't think there is anything wrong with knowing how much you'll be expected to make at a certain stage of your career but we can agree to disagree :)

Also note that 59% of consultants get performance related bonuses (i *think* thats a few k on average, not sure) and the pensions very good..

    A fair amount

In London, good consultant, which practically the entire profession, at least 170K and usually to 200K, but can be up to 250K, upon further specialties, performance bonuses, some overtime and even higher if you parttime private practice

Man, that's craaaazy money - I assumed I'd max out at around £70k, how naive! Still, I'll probably end up part-time so that figure may still end up being accurate, heheh.

Nice numbers you have there :)
In Romania, you won't get more than 7.000$/year..and no, isn't a joke :)

Yes. A few years ago but I realized that my family is here, my friends are here, all my life is here. I don't want to leave them for money :)

Those numbers are way over-rated for anyone who isnt (inter)nationally renowned;a forensic psych or an orthopod raking in private work or some such other private only boss... most consultants I know across specialities earn around 100K - in London and outside, after a few years of being one...
