    Hi everyone.

Who else is applying for Leicester?

Really nervous, waiting for that message where they decide whether or not to take me to interview, let alone an offer.

Good luck to whoever is. :D

    Hi Serac

I am also applying to Leicester! Have you been to any of their open days? I was hoping to make one but they kept clashing with other commitments, so far every time I have spoken to them they seem so nice and friendly which seems to be kind of rare for medical schools! I am now just playing the waiting game until I hear back from anywhere :(

    Hello. :)

I didn't have the finance to get to any of them :(, but Leicester does look really nice!

What were your grades and UKCAT like? I'm worried my UKCAT will hold me back.

    Hey :D

It's a shame but I am sure if we get interviews we will get a chance to poke around?
I'm 24 so a bit of an "unusual" applicant. I have:
DipHE Adult Nursing, i've been a registered surgical nurse for three years
Currently doing an Access to Medicine course as I don't have Alevels, it covered Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Maths, English: Predicted Distinction
    GCSE's: 1 A*, 7As, 2Bs 2 C's, GNVQ ICT Merit
    UKCAT score 690 average

Your UKCAT is still above average, so as long as you don't apply to super UKCAT hungry schools like Kings I think you will be ok? I'm mostly worried about my GCSE's as my C's are in science (awful science teacher... i'm not just saying that... really awful!) and hoping my Nursing and Access course will compensate. I had to search high and low for Medicine courses that didn't require all grade A's.

Are you applying straight from school/college?

Very nice; being a surgical nurse is bound to give you points. In terms of experience, you'll probably be one of the best applying :).

And yeah, I'm applying straight from school.

With regards to the UKCAT, I'm applying to GCSE and PS universities:

    Keele (PS)
    Cardiff (GCSE)
    UEA (Both)

    I'm sure they won't mind, I'm just a worrier :)

They have a point system. Any idea what you got?

I got 50/60 for the 5-year course. I know it is a risk applying with this score but I wasn't left with any other choice!

    What about you?

I think that will be fine, from what I've heard they don't care if your PS is good :)

    I got 56/60. :)

Any idea what the cutoff was last time?

    I'll try and remember :p:

    5 Points for A*, 4 for A, 3 for B etc.
Apply with your top six GCSEs including English, Maths, And a maximum of Three Sciences, and one extra. :)
So, for me, it would be:

    A* A* A* (for triple Science), A in English, A* Maths and A* Music.

    Which gives me 29/30.

However, they also give you one extra point for every A grade AS level, of the Sciences and Maths, which bumps me up to 30/30 for the qualifications score.

Then, they look at your UKCAT:

    3000+ = 30
    2900+ = 29
    2800+= 28

And so on. My average was 660, so I got 26 for that bit.

That gives me a total of 56 out of 60

    Hope that helped.

    What did you get?

When I asked the admission lady on the phone she said the cut-off was 56/60 last year. So, I'm not ver optimistic :(
Plus, they don't look at your PS or reference prior to academic and ukcat scores

Thanks! I now remember seeing this, but as I'm doing a different course and am a mature student they mark it differently  but don't actually say how...

So has anyone been to the medical school itself? Do you know what the're well-renowned for?

Hopefully! We shall see I guess! I saw on the website they will be interviewing in Dec, Jan and Feb so hopefully we may hear something from November? I'm just anxiously waiting!

Maria where else have you applied?

I have heard they have excellent anatomy teaching, they offer a full body dissection which is something many medical schools no longer offer.

I've also applied to Keele, Aberdeen and Leeds. I'm not very hopeful this year, have already started thinking about studying for the GAMSAT for next year's round!
That's great, considering I get an interview!!

Lol I had a dream that I was called for an interview like a minute in advance and I thought omg I haven't prepared for the NHS/ethical questions and started pacnicking and woke up... yeah I think I better start reading on that before it's too late :)

Arr now you are making me nervous! Haha! Awesome! Do you mind me asking what kind of applicant you are? School leaver or mature? I've applied for Glasgow, Brighton and Sussex and Southampton, as they are more "mature friendly" as such, and less emphasis on GCSE's which is my weakness :( Also only certain Unis take my access qualification. I realised too late that I could take the GAMSAT and apply for somewhere like Exeter, but i've heard it's a ridiculously hard exam so i'm hoping I get in this year without it! May have to be my backup for next year if not.

    Here you go .....

My ukcat score is awful - average of 550!
Uni grades: first class in maths and finishing off a phd at the moment
School grades: not very impressive - AABB at scottish Highers and ABD at Advanced Highers!
